I like to think that if I put my mind to it, I can write a lot of different types of documents. I have written impact statements, eBooks, brochures, company profiles (“white papers”), etc. Usually what happens is that someone will come along with something they have written – sometimes just ideas jotted down in point form – and then ask me to rewrite it in an interesting, punchy way. Recently I wrote an impact statement for someone who had been through a horrible trauma and they were very pleased with the outcome.
I was also approached by this “techie” company, biNu (who produce amazing apps for phones which enable non-smartphones to access the internet like smartphones – very popular in Africa!) to write a “white paper for the company – which is basically a document describing what the company does. The challenge with this kind of writing is to try and describe something that is quite technical in a way that is easily understood by everyone.
